Dirty words or death
I've been closely following this whole Howard Stern debacle, where it looks like the FCC is going to force him off the air by threatening to revisit all his old shows and levy personal fines on Stern if they deem any of it offensive. Funny how Clear Channel, which loves Bush, dumped Stern two days after he turned on the President. Anyway, this is a portion of a letter that appeared in the Cleveland Plains-Dealer.

"I was wondering why the Republicans believe that hearing a four-letter word on the radio is more damaging than death or catastrophic injury. Consider that the Bush administration wants to increase FCC
fines for indecency up to $500,000 per violation per station, yet at the same time, it wants to restrict noneconomic damages in tort cases to $250,000 or $350,000.

So if a DJ says a four-letter word on the radio, the harm is so appalling that a fine of $500,000 per word, per station is justified. But if someone is paralyzed, killed or otherwise catastrophically injured, the most the family could get for the (noneconomic) loss would be up to $350,000."

It is truly frightening that this bill can pass the House and there is still no definition for what is obscene or indecent.

Is it obscene or indecent to call a sitting President a fraud and claim he cooked up the war against Iraq at his ranch as Ted Kennedy did? I know the Rush Limbaughs and Sean Hannitys of the world would define it as such. Does that mean that Ted Kennedy should be fined for making that comment because it was aired over and over again on television?

It is funny to me that there can be a commercial for erectile dysfunction drugs on during the Super bowl showing the men of the world that if they take this drug they can once again ?hit the hole? but God forbid someone should say anal between 6am ? 11am on the radio while kids should either be at school or in the presence of their parents

I can't believe we have a Republican President that spends like my relatives, manipulates information to his liking, lies about the cost of the war and the Medicare prescription bill, puts into effect the Patriot Act which allows the government to undermine our civil liberties and now wants to tell me who I can or can't listen to because of a temporary outrage over some stupid stunt by Janet Jackson that was on the air for 1 second.

As someone who views himself as a Republican I can honestly say I am ashamed of this President for both his actions and what he stands for.
